Keep up the great work everyone!! 10:56:28 From Debi Elder : Intensive Treatment Systems has a Substance Abuse Block Grant to provide medication assisted treatment to those who don't have insurance. They provide daily transportation for dosing. Carol Golden is the contact person. Their program is great! carolgolden@itsofaz.com 10:56:50 From Angie Warren Child and Family Therapist : The aged out foster kids are a part of the picture, but most of the time, kids who end up on the streets have experienced some type of trauma and disconnect from their family or other support systems. Many leave their homes believing that the streets will be better than the situation they are in. 10:57:08 From Debi Elder : Feel free to reach out to me if you need additional resources for mental health services. Debi.elder@aurorabehavioral.com 10:57:39 From Debi Elder : Heartbreaking! 10:59:11 From Chuck Fitzgerald : Ron Friesen, 623-455-0620, ron.friesen48@gmail.com, Ecumenical Chaplaincy for the Homeless 11:01:22 From rayetta : AZ teens in foster care who are aging out have the option of staying in state care. They can receive medical & dental coverage, the opportunity to go to a trade school/college, assistance with getting a job, housing subsidy, mentoring, etc. However, many of them believe that they will do better on their own, and elect not to participate in our Independent Living Program. Extremely unfortunate. 11:02:58 From Angie Warren Child and Family Therapist : That is my experience with the teens as well, Rayetta. The underdeveloped frontal cortex (thinking brain) which is typical of that age group coupled with the trauma creates quite the barrier! 11:03:41 From rayetta : Thanks for your input, Angie. There is a lot of misunderstanding about teens who age out. 11:04:14 From Sherry Griffin : Thank you so much for this informative session. I have to jump off but I really appreciate the work you are doing. ~And thank you Chuck for setting this all up. Bless you all 11:06:26 From Angie Warren Child and Family Therapist : Agreed! I think many often believe they are just obstinate and rebellious. They need a sense of safety and belonging to develop any amount of trust that others will genuinely care about them and have their best interest at heart. They also have been fending for themselves for most of their lives and don't know that they can be comforted, protected, and cared for by anyone else. 11:08:16 From Angie Warren Child and Family Therapist : This is true of teens and the long term adult homeless population. 11:10:27 From Angie Warren Child and Family Therapist : Can we all get that manual please?!?! 11:10:28 From Christina Panaitescu, city of Goodyear : Leah Powell with the city of Chandler may be a good connection. 11:12:52 From Christina Panaitescu, city of Goodyear : City of Peoria and City of Goodyear Police Departments have done some impressive work with Homeless Outreach. 11:20:19 From Cynthia : My new best friend RON!! 11:20:34 From Ron Friesen : Thank you, Cynthia! 11:21:37 From April Jones / DES : DES Community Partner Communication Virtual Session next week will focus on homelessness and unemployment insurance.
